Not Fit in PM Modi's Pasmanda Muslim upliftment. Will move court against it: Maulana Mahmood Madani
New Delhi 25 March 2023: Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind President Maulana Mahmood Madani has strongly condemned the removal of a 27-year-long reservation Quota for backward Muslim sub-castes in Karnataka by the state Government. Maulana Madani also termed it harmful to the comprehensive development policy of the country.
Maulana Madani stated that this does not fit in PM Modi's Pasmanda Muslim upliftment as on one hand, the Prime Minister of the country is promoting development policy for the backward Muslims, and on the other hand, his state government is snatching away the reservation from them in Karnataka and distributing it among other classes.
Maulana Madani argued that various official statistics and reports of commissions confirm the fact that the Muslims of India are economically and educationally at the lowest rung of development. Hence, if measured backwardness, no community deserves reservation more than Muslims. Unfortunately, the BJP dispensation always claims that reservations can not be given on religious grounds, but it never considers Muslim backwardness. As far as the Karnataka issue, religion is not the basis here and not all Muslims are benefiting from it. Only 12 backward Muslim communities are covered.
Despite these facts, the Karnataka government's removal of the Muslim reservation and extending it to the Vikaliga and Lingayat communities is the worst example of electoral opportunism and appeasement, which also aims to create discord between the two communities. Maulana Madani resolved that Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind will move court against this verdict.
