Army Colonel, Major, DySP Killed in Anantnag Encounter
The deceased officers were identified as Colonel Manpreet Singh, CO 19 RR (12 Sikh Light Infantry), Major Ashish Dhonack and DySP Humayan Bhat.
Srinagar 13 Sep: Army Colonel, Major and DySP of J&K were killed in an encounter, which broke out between security forces and militants in the Kokernag area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Wednesday, said officials.
They said that a cordon and search operation was carried out by the security forces along with the police after receiving a tip-off about the presence of the militants in the area.
The encounter started after a contact was established with the hidden militants, who were given a chance to surrender but turned down the offer from the forces' side.
In the initial stage of the gunfight, three senior officers from the Army and JKP got injured who were immediately shifted to a medical facility for treatment, where they succumbed to their injuries.

As the operation intensified, more reinforcement rushed to the encounter site to battle the militants and provide support to the present comrades.
After a few hours of the commencement of the encounter, GOC 15 Corps Rajiv Ghai, DGP J&K Dilbag Singh, ADGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar and other senior officers went to the spot to assess the situation.
The gunfight, however, was underway at the time of filing of this story and the firing was going on from both sides, with no reports of any casualty from the trapped militants' end.
