Cultural Diplomacy on Stage: Shri Dharmic Leela’s Epic Tribute to India-Nepal Ties

New Delhi, September 23, 2024: Shri Dharmic Leela Committee, a renowned organization dedicated to staging Ramleela depicting the life of Lord Ram for the past 101 years, organized a grand play titled "Sita in Ramayana" at the Embassy of Nepal. The event was held with the gracious support of H.E. Dr. Surendra Thapa, Chargé d'Affaires of Nepal, to celebrate and reinforce the timeless bond between India and Nepal, rooted in shared mythology and cultural heritage.
Under the guiding light of the late Lala Bansidhar Gupta, Shri Dharmic Leela Committee has been a beacon of devotion, tradition, and community spirit. This play was a tribute to the deep-rooted historical and cultural ties between India and Nepal, which date back to the epic Ramayana. The portrayal of Sita’s journey emphasized the unique connection between the two nations, symbolizing their inseparable brotherhood and enduring friendship.
The event was made possible by the tireless efforts of the esteemed office bearers of Shri Dharmic Leela Committee, including Chairman Shri Suresh Goyal, General Secretary Shri Dhiraj Dhar Gupta, Secretary Shri Pradeep Sharan, Shri Satish Garg, and Shri Vinay Sharma. GTTCI President Dr. Gaurav Gupta, also the Vice President of Shri Dharmic Leela Committee, played a pivotal role in ensuring the participation of ambassadors and diplomats, making this a truly global event that showcased the spirit of brotherhood between India and Nepal.
The play was attended by distinguished ambassadors, high commissioners, and diplomats from around the world, including:
• Ambassadors, High Commissioners, and Chargé d'Affaires from: Ecuador, Panama, Venezuela, Paraguay, and Comoros.
• Deputy Ambassadors/Deputy High Commissioners from: Sri Lanka, Canada, Colombia, and Serbia.
• Diplomats from: USA, Russia, Japan, Mongolia, Morocco, Ghana, Malawi, Mozambique, Somalia, Azerbaijan, Singapore, and Bhutan.
The diplomats were honored by the Shri Dharmic Leela Committee, marking a significant moment in cultural diplomacy. The event was further graced by the presence of several special guests, including Dr. Murli Manohar Joshi, former Minister of Home Affairs and former President of BJP; Shri Vasudev Devnani, Speaker of Rajasthan; MP Yogender Chandelia; Meenakshi Lekhi, former Minister of State for External Affairs; Former Union Minister - Shri Shahnawaz Hussain and noted poet and humorist Surendra Sharma.
The play highlighted the historical bond between India and Nepal, symbolized by Sita, who hails from Nepal, and Ram, from India. The enactment of the Janakpuri wedding scene brought alive the rich cultural tapestry that binds the two nations as one family.
