Unchecked Waste Dumping Tarnishes Bhaderwah’s Natural Heritage, Questions Raised on Administration’s Commitment.

Bhaderwah, June 12: Despite repeated calls for environmental conservation and the routine observance of Environment Day awareness events, ground realities in Bhaderwah valley paint a starkly different picture. Alarming visuals have emerged showing open dumping of waste directly into water bodies — a clear violation of environmental norms and a reflection of administrative apathy.Every year, the local administration organises events and campaigns to mark environmental awareness drives.

However, activists argue that these efforts often amount to little more than photo opportunities. On-ground impact remains negligible, as evidenced by continued pollution and degradation of water lsources.

Environment journalist and Chairman of Bhaderwah Eco-Watch, Mansoor Qadir, expressed deep concern over the situation. In a strong appeal, he urged the youth and community leaders to collaborate with government authorities to safeguard the region’s fragile ecosystem.“ cmThe time has come for citizens, particularly young leaders, to actively participate in protecting our water bodies and green cover. We must hold the system accountable and move beyond slogans to real action,” said Qadir.

He further emphasized that sustainable environmental practices should not remain confined to events, but must be enforced consistently through strict monitoring, accountability, and community participation.Bhaderwah, known for its natural beauty and ecological richness, stands at a critical juncture. Without timely intervention, the unchecked dumping of waste could irreversibly damage the valley’s pristine water resources and biodiversity.
