ICHR Commemorates World Environment Day with Diplomatic Participation and Thoughtful Dialogues
New Delhi, 3 June 2025 : The Indian Council of Historical Research (ICHR) hosted a remarkable celebration of World Environment Day at the India International Centre, uniting diplomats, scholars, and civil society members to deliberate on pressing environmental challenges and collective action for sustainability.
The evening commenced with a Welcome Address by Dr. Aruna Abhey Oswal, Chairperson of ICHR, followed by an Inaugural Address by Acharya Lokesh Muni, whose message emphasized the deep-rooted connection between humanity and nature in Indian philosophy and traditions.
Diplomats from Armenia, Comoros, Djibouti, Guinea, and Somalia honored the event with their gracious presence, sharing valuable insights into their countries’ environmental priorities and the need for global solidarity.
Additional distinguished speakers included Mr Breno Berna (Representative, UNESCO) and Dr. Deepak Jain (Hon’ble Consul General of Tuvalu), both of whom highlighted the urgent call for international cooperation in environmental preservation.

The panel discussion featured engaging contributions from Prof. Subha Rajan, Ms. Neelu Rohra (former IFS officer), and several diplomats and environmental experts. The conversation underscored policy innovations, interfaith environmental ethics, and actionable pathways for communities.
The evening was smoothly conducted under the stewardship of Mr. K. L. Malhotra, who also enlightened the gathering on the significance of World Environment Day and its historical evolution.
The event was coordinated under the guidance of Dr. Gaurav Gupta, Treasurer, ICHR, who, along with other dignitaries, warmly welcomed the attending diplomats and esteemed guests
Prominent guests in attendance included Kapil Khandelwal, Neeraj Sharma, Vikas, Amod Kumar, and Shikha Goel, alongside active members Neelam Mansaramani, Praveen Sharma, and Dr. Deepali, whose continued efforts strengthen such collaborative initiatives.
