Kishtwar, Aug 15, 2025: The Indian Army, working closely with the Civil Administration and State Disaster Response Force, has carried out a large-scale search and rescue operation after a devastating cloudburst hit Chisoti village in Kishtwar.
The disaster struck around 12:45 am along the route of the ongoing Machail Mata Yatra, triggering flash floods and heavy destruction. At least 60 people have died, more than 100 have been injured, and dozens are still missing. Victims include both yatris (pilgrims) and local residents.

As soon as information reached, Army rescue teams were rushed to the spot. Despite dangerous terrain, rising water levels, and debris-filled streams, soldiers reached the affected area quickly to help stranded people.
The Army teams, supported by vehicles, specialist rescue equipment, and medical staff, moved survivors to safe places and gave them first aid. Food, clean drinking water, blankets, and emergency medical help were provided immediately. Efforts are still underway to find the missing. Army engineers are also working to clear blocked roads so that relief work can continue without interruption.

This rescue effort has once again shown the Indian Army’s dedication to saving lives and helping citizens in times of disaster. The joint work of all agencies has been crucial in reducing the impact of this tragedy.
