Udhampur (J&K), February 4: Security forces eliminated two terrorists during an intense encounter in the Majalta area of Udhampur district, as a joint counter-terror operation entered its second day on Wednesday.
According to official sources, the gunfight broke out after security personnel received specific intelligence inputs about the presence of armed militants hiding in the forested belt of the area. Acting swiftly, teams of the Army and 4 Para Special Forces cordoned off the suspected zone late Tuesday evening, leading to a fierce exchange of fire.

During the operation, two terrorists were neutralised, while searches are still underway to ensure no other militants remain trapped in the region. Heavy security deployment has been maintained across nearby villages as a precautionary measure.
Officials said the terrain remains challenging, and forces are proceeding cautiously to avoid any civilian harm. Arms and ammunition are also believed to have been recovered from the encounter site, though a formal confirmation is awaited.
Meanwhile, senior police and army officers are closely monitoring the operation, which is part of continued efforts to curb militant activity in the Chenab belt districts.
Further details are expected once the operation concludes.
