Selective Tourism Policy? Bhaderwah Activist Alleges Discrimination, Slams Administration and BJP Leadership.

Bhaderwah, June 17: A fresh controversy has erupted in Bhaderwah after local political activist Manoj Padha publicly accused the administration of discriminatory treatment towards unemployed youth in the ÓJammu region.

In a strongly worded Facebook video, Padha alleged that while authorities have been allowing the installation of tents in various parts of Kashmir Valley — local youth in Bhaderwah are being denied the same opportunity, despite their financial struggles and readiness to work.

Padha claimed that many local youths had taken bank loans to purchase tents and hospitality equipment, with the hope of earning through eco-tourism at Jai Valley and Gurdanda. However, they have been left helpless, he says, due to the lack of cooperation from the local administration, making it impossible for them to operate or repay their loans.

What’s drawn sharper public attention is his criticism of BJP leaders, whom he accused of only promoting tourism in Kashmir — including organizing cricket matches — while neglecting picturesque areas like Bhaderwah that have tremendous untapped tourism potential.

He further questioned the recent music evening programs conducted by the district authorities, terming them cosmetic events that do little to empower local youth or boost sustainable tourism.

Padha also warned against the environmental fallout, pointing to pollution in local water bodies and the fragile ecology of the region.

His remarks have sparked fresh debate over whether the tourism development approach in Jammu and Kashmir is inclusive or selectively driven.

Many have echoed the sentiment that Bhaderwah’s tourism potential remains underutilized, not because of lack of beauty or infrastructure, but due to policy apathy and regional imbalance.
