Bhaderwah, Oct 26: In a vibrant display of camaraderie and sportsmanship, the Indian Army’s 4 Rashtriya Rifles (Bihar) stationed at Bhaderwah today inaugurated the Olive Cricket Tournament under Operation Sadbhavna for the youths of the Chenab region in Jammu and Kashmir.
The tournament was formally inaugurated by Commander 9 Sector RR Brigadier Sunil Mishra, along with ADC Bhaderwah Sunil Kumar, BMO Bhaderwah Dr. Varsha Sharma, and Commanding Officer 4RR Colonel Yogesh Chauhan, in the presence of a large gathering of sports enthusiasts, officials, and locals.

As per Army and local officials, about 80 teams from various parts of the Chenab valley will participate in this month-long twenty-20 cricket tournament, aimed at fostering unity, discipline, and physical fitness among the youth.
While the Army continues its counter-insurgency operations in the higher reaches of Seviz Dhar and adjoining forest areas, it remains equally focused on strengthening civil-military relations through civic outreach and welfare programmes in far-flung areas of the region.
Prominent social figure Abdul Hafiz Khateeb, Ex-President of Anjuman Islamia Bhaderwah, appreciated the Army’s continued efforts to engage the youth in sports and community-building initiatives, describing them as vital steps toward maintaining peace and social harmony.

Locals also praised the Army for its earlier humanitarian missions including rescue and relief efforts during floods and the distribution of solar lights under Operation ‘Roshni’ saying such acts have strengthened the bond between the Army and the people.
Residents believe that youth participation in sports will not only channel their energy positively but also help in curbing drug addiction and other social evils, promoting a culture of health, unity, and hope across the Chenab valley.
