In a vibrant and heartfelt celebration, the Canis Welfare Pet Club (CWPC) commemorated World Veterinary Day 2026 on 3rd May with grandeur at the splendid Andaaz Mansion, Kirti Nagar.

The event began with a solemn Shradhanjali in memory of Dr. Sameeksha Reddy and Dr. Vaisakh Viswan, who lost their lives while performing their duties.

The programme was inaugurated by Col (Dr) Ranadhir De (President), Dr. Bhupender Singh Chahal (Vice President), and Dr. Vijay Kumar (Secretary), in the esteemed presence of Chief Guest Maj Gen S. S. Balaje, VSM, and Guests of Honour including Dr. Vinod Kumar, Vice Chancellor, LUVAS, Hisar; Dr. N. Saravana Kumar, IAS, Vice Chairman, DDA; Dr. Muthukumarasamy B., IAS, Chairman, AWBI; and Dr. Alok Ranjan Ghosh, IAS, Director, DoPT, Government of India. The Guests of Honour were felicitated by the Executive Committee of CWPC.

This year’s theme, ‘Veterinarians: Guardians of Food and Health,’ beautifully highlighted the crucial role veterinarians play—not only in caring for animals, but also in protecting human health and ensuring the safety of the food we consume.

The man behind the continued success of Delhi’s World Veterinary Day celebrations for the past 16 years, Dr. Vijay Kumar (Secretary), once again orchestrated a memorable event. The program was meticulously planned by Dr. Bhupender Singh Chahal (Vice President), Dr. Rahul M. Pawar (DVA), and Col (Dr) Pramod Kumar Chugh, with strong support from the Delhi Veterinary Association, Small Animal Veterinary Association Delhi, and Indian Veterinary Association.

In his welcome address, Col (Dr) Ranadhir De spoke passionately about the significance of World Veterinary Day and emphasized the importance of teamwork in advancing animal health. Dr. Neelam Josan elaborated on the theme, underscoring the vital role veterinarians play in safeguarding both animal and human health.

A key highlight of the event was the thematic talk on “Veterinarians: Guardians of Food and Health.”

The emotional core of the evening was the Awards and Accolades segment, where several honours were presented:

The evening also witnessed the felicitation of distinguished personalities in the veterinary field, including Dr. Sanjeet (Director, Delhi Zoo), Dr. Lalita (GST Commissioner), Col (Dr.) M. S. Army Officer), Prof. Dr. Asha Rajini (Poultry Specialist / Marathoner), Dr. Jasbir Singh (Vice President, FSAPAI), Dr. Sarpreet Singh (Dev Bhumi, Uttarakhand), Dr. Indrajit Singh Chaudhary (VCI Member), Dr. Chhering Dikit (Assistant Commandant Vet), Dr. Manoj Kumar (President, UP Veterinary Association), Dr. Lakshmi Srinivasan (Small Animal Fertility Specialist, Hyderabad), and Mrs. Shylaja Reddy and Mr. Dhruvakumar R. A grand gathering of more than 600 delegates attended the celebration, representing the Delhi Government, MCD, Central Government bodies, laboratory institutions, private practitioners, and veterinary associations such as PPA (Delhi), PPA (UP), PLRC, and SAPA (Gurugram).
