The strength of India’s economy is closely linked to the growth and development of the MSME and small-scale industrial sector, which is widely regarded as the backbone of the Indian economy. However, these enterprises continue to face several serious and complex challenges in their day-to-day operations and expansion.

One of the biggest challenges confronting small and medium enterprises is the delay in receiving payments, which severely affects their cash flow and makes it difficult for them to manage regular business operations. At the same time, the burden of high-cost credit makes it extremely difficult for entrepreneurs to expand their businesses and invest in growth.

Apart from financial constraints, complicated regulatory procedures and limited access to wider markets are also slowing down the growth of the SME sector.

Highlighting the need for practical and effective solutions, Dr. Kapil Chopra, President of Apex Chamber of Commerce, said that if the SME sector is to be given a fresh impetus, industries must be provided easy access to credit at lower interest rates. He emphasized that a strict and effective mechanism should also be put in place to ensure that MSME units receive timely payments for their products and services.

Dr. Chopra further said that complicated rules and regulatory formalities should be simplified to promote ease of doing business for small entrepreneurs. At the same time, better platforms should be created to help products and services manufactured by small enterprises reach larger domestic and international markets.

Dr. Kapil Chopra stressed that India’s overall economic progress cannot gain sustainable momentum unless the SME and small-scale industrial sector becomes strong, self-reliant and financially stable.

He said that addressing the problems faced by the sector in a timely and effective manner should be among the country’s top priorities, as a robust SME ecosystem will not only strengthen businesses but also contribute significantly to employment generation, investment and long-term economic growth.
