Anantnag, Aug 2 (JK) : A household accident turned fatal in the Sadoora area of south Kashmir on Sunday, claiming the life of 2-year-old Anaya Ishfaq.

Family members said a heavy stack of bedding kept on top of a wardrobe came loose and fell on the toddler. Despite immediate efforts, Anaya succumbed to her injuries at the scene.

Officials from the local police station confirmed the incident and said legal proceedings have been initiated. The death has left the Sadoora locality in mourning.

Experts Urge Caution Following the incident, officials and child welfare workers have appealed to parents and guardians to take extra precautions at home:

Avoid storing heavy items like bedding, trunks, or utensils on top of wardrobes, shelves, or other furniture that children can climb.

Secure furniture to walls where possible, and keep climbing surfaces away from tall storage units.

Never leave toddlers unsupervised, especially in rooms with heavy or unstable objects.

Create a child-safe zone* by keeping play areas free of hazards and storing household items at lower levels.

Educate family members about basic home safety, as most accidents involving small children occur at home.

“Small lapses can have tragic consequences. Parents are urged to childproof homes and remain vigilant,” an expert said.
