Authorities ordered to enforce 50-metre restriction; intensified surveillance directed around educational institutions.
JK, August 28: The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Jammu and Kashmir has intensified its crackdown on the sale of junk food around schools and other educational institutions, directing enforcement agencies to strictly enforce the 50-metre restriction in school zones across the Union Territory.
The directive follows growing concerns over the increasing availability of unhealthy and nutritionally deficient food products in areas frequented by children.
As part of the enforcement drive, authorities have been asked to maintain heightened surveillance around educational institutions and ensure that prohibited food items are not sold within a 50-metre radius of school premises.
The FDA has made it clear that violations of the prescribed restrictions will not be taken lightly. Concerned agencies have been directed to ensure effective compliance and take appropriate action against those found flouting the norms.
The initiative is aimed at creating a healthier environment for schoolchildren by restricting their easy access to junk food and curbing the sale and promotion of unhealthy food products near educational institutions.
The intensified enforcement is expected to bring greater focus on food outlets operating around schools and strengthen efforts to safeguard the health and nutritional well-being of children across Jammu and Kashmir.
