Two killed, three injured as car skids off road near Sarthal in Kathua

JK, Sept. 11 (ITN) : Two persons, including a woman, were killed and three others sustained injuries when a Maruti Baleno car skidded off the road near the famous tourist destination Sarthal in the Bani tehsil of Kathua district on Friday.

According to official sources, the vehicle was on its way from Bhaderwah when it met with the accident at Sarthal Mode. One of the passengers, identified as Monika (29), wife of Suveer Kotwal and resident of Dandi Bhaderwah, died on the spot.

The remaining four occupants were immediately evacuated to a nearby hospital by locals and police personnel. However, an elderly passenger, Balwant Kotwal (61), son of Bajnath Kotwal and resident of Dandi Bhaderwah, later succumbed to his critical injuries while undergoing treatment.

The three injured persons have been identified as Suveer Kotwal (33), son of Balwan Singh; Parshanta Kotwal (59), son of Balwant Kotwal, both residents of Dandi Bhaderwah; and Vikram Singh (33), son of Ranjeet Singh, a resident of Purkhu Damana, Jammu. They have been shifted to a specialised medical facility for advanced care.

The police have taken cognizance of the accident, registered a case, and initiated necessary legal proceedings to ascertain the cause of the crash. A pall of gloom has descended on the Dandi village ecosystem in Bhaderwah following the news of the tragedy.
