JK, Kupwara, Sept. 28 (ITN) : At least five persons were killed and six others injured on Monday when a passenger Tata Sumo vehicle skidded off the road and plunged into a deep gorge on the Teetwal–Simari road in the Karnah sector of Kupwara district.
The vehicle lost control near Semari, leaving five passengers dead on the spot. Local residents, the Kupwara Police, and the district administration launched a swift rescue operation. Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Srikant Balasaheb Suse, confirmed that all six injured survivors were evacuated to SDH Tangdhar and later referred to Government Medical College (GMC) Handwara for advanced treatment.
The deceased have been identified as Mohammad Idrees (32), his wife Sayeed Begum (30), their daughter Hamza (9), Shabir Ahmad (70), and Raja Irshad (27).
LG Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed deep grief over the tragic loss of lives. In official statements, both leaders extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and strictly directed the district administration to ensure the best possible medical care and assistance for the injured survivors. Police have registered a case to investigate the cause of the accident.
