Financial blow to local flock owner; villagers demand immediate
wildlife intervention
JK , Sept. 10 (ITN) : Panic has gripped Badipora village in the Chadoora area of central Kashmir’s Budgam district after a suspected leopard attacked a local livestock enclosure during the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday, leaving 16 sheep dead and 17 others critically injured.
The livestock belonged to Imtiyaz Ahmad Chopan, a local flock owner who stated that the sudden attack has caused devastating financial losses to his family, whose primary source of livelihood depends on livestock rearing. Describing the incident as a severe blow to his sustenance, Chopan appealed to the district administration and the Wildlife Department for urgent monetary compensation to help rebuild his livelihood.
The night attack has triggered widespread anxiety among the local residents, who expressed fears over the growing presence of wild animals near human habitations. Villagers urged the Wildlife Protection Department to immediately dispatch a team for an on-site assessment, deploy trapping cages, and initiate regular patrolling in the area to prevent further incidents and ensure the safety of both residents and their livestock.
