JK, Sept. 17 (ITN): A chilling daytime killing has triggered intense panic in Jammu city after a 35-year-old newspaper vendor was shot dead inside his residence under mysterious circumstances on Thursday afternoon.
The deceased has been identified as Deepak Sharma, a resident of Reshamgarh Colony in the Bakshi Nagar area. Sharma, a well-known local newspaper hawker, is survived by his wife and two children.
According to family sources, the incident occurred around noon when Sharma was inside his house. Relatives allege that an unidentified assailant managed to breach the premises and shot Sharma directly in the forehead at close range before escaping into the crowded bylaws of the locality. Neighbors expressed deep shock over the brazen attack, noting that no unusual sound or gunshot was heard despite the proximity of adjacent houses.
Police Launch Investigation Upon receiving the alarm, a heavy contingent of police, accompanied by forensic experts, rushed to the spot and cordoned off the scene to secure vital evidence.
While the family firmly alleges murder by a trespasser, senior police officials stated that they are keeping all options open and investigating the tragedy from multiple angles, including the possibility of suicide.
The victim’s body has been shifted to the mortuary of the Government Medical College (GMC) Hospital, Jammu, for a mandatory postmortem examination to ascertain the exact nature and trajectory of the fatal wound.
Investigating teams have begun checking local CCTV footage around the colony perimeter to identify any suspicious movement during the afternoon hours. A formal case has been registered, and further details are awaited as the investigation progresses.
